When you work in tech industry, things change very fast and, as a designer, you want to follow the right people who will inspire you. While Twitter has been a pretty niche social networks for politicians, VCs or some nerds, we find it very useful and much more open than Facebook or Instagram in lots of ways.

Being involved in graphic design, logos, UX design, we decided to compile a list of influential, inspirational and just interesting accounts to follow that you might not heard of before.

Designers to follow on Twitter:

1. Denis Pakhaliuk

2. Michal Simkovic

3. Khoi Vinh

4. Iconwerk

5. Mike Matas

6. Maykel Loomans

7. Mackey Saturday

We hope you find this list of designers and design entrepreneurs interesting to follow on Twitter.

One of my friends once said that you would better follow only people you admire and unfollow everyone else so that your news feed would give you only valuable information whenever you open your twitter account. This is true especially in our busy lifestyle. One of our personal biggest discoveries was an account of Naval Ravikant, Founder of Angel List and an extremely successful entrepreneur. We got tired bookmarking his quotes, because they are incredibly insightful and mind-blowing. Once you do that, you realize that social media is not that evil, and you can use it for your good.

Another big plus of using Twitter is that you can send a message to literally anyone in the world. For example Elon Musk constantly respond to people mentioning him in their tweets. The same goes to designers, if you have a question, you can ask them and some of them may respond with a career advice or a feedback about your work.

If you have been using Twitter long enough, you may noticed that this social network is one of a few where only your authority matters, if you buy followers, or fake your engagement, people will not read you and follow you. The only way to become popular there is to share valuable information, participate in conversations, be current and professional. There is no other network like that. Of course having a blue tick (twitter verification badge) can help too, but you should be someone first with lots of press coverage. BTW, @naval doesn’t have that blue tick and still have huge engagement. So being verified is more of an ego thing right now.

There are lots of bloggers, designers and innovators who hang out there and post interesting life advices, vital information about changes in design, freshest material or struggles with co-workers. If you are passionate about design, Twitter should be your daily dose of caffeine to stay awake and learn something new every day.

On Twitter, most of the designers are open about their work and people hire them on their mutual recognition. It’s easy to find those designers because they display their work on their profiles and websites. Dribbble and LinkedIn are great places for designers to show what they are up to and who they are, but they are mostly used for professional networking, which is somehow a step forward from the Facebook business pages.

But yes, it is great to show yourself, but more important to show what you have done. Twitter is great place because it is about creativity and about posting useful material on regular basis.

Conclusion

Twitter is very important for designers, especially when you already have a portfolio and you want to show your work in the best possible way. It is really effective tool for graphic designers. For more accounts, we invite you to check this list of Instagram design accounts to follow.
